How Many Questions Are on the U.S. Citizenship Civics Test?

How many civics questions USCIS asks in the interview for the 2008 and 2025 tests, how many you need correct, and how to practice the full bank.

Updated

Short answer

On the 2008 civics test, the officer asks up to 10 questions from a bank of 100; you need 6 correct to pass. On the 2025 civics test, the officer asks up to 20 questions from a bank of 128; you need 12 correct to pass. Your version depends on when you filed Form N-400.

Why people confuse “100” and “10”

You study a large official list (100 or 128). At the interview you are not asked every question — only a sample. Passing is about hitting the threshold on that sample, not memorizing one lucky set of ten answers.

65/20 special consideration

If you qualify for 65/20, you study 20 starred questions. The officer asks 10; you need 6 correct. Civics may be in your language of choice under that consideration — confirm current rules for your case.

How to practice

Use our eligibility checker to confirm 2008 vs 2025, then open the matching full list (all 100 or all 128) with free audio. Finish with interview simulation until you consistently clear 6/10 or 12/20.
