Naturalization Interview Day Checklist

A practical checklist for naturalization interview day: documents, civics and English mindset, and what to expect in the oral test.

Updated

Documents and logistics

Bring your appointment notice and required documents. Arrive early. Review your N-400 answers — the officer will ask about your application, not only civics trivia.

Civics mindset

Listen to the full question. Answer clearly in English (unless an applicable exception applies). For changing answers, use the official who serves on interview day.

English portion

Speak so the officer can understand you. For reading and writing, you typically need to get one of three attempts correct — practice official vocabulary sentences beforehand.

Night before

Do a short simulation, recheck officials, then stop cramming. Rest beats an all-nighter for oral recall.
